Date Announced for Inquest into the Death of Richard Swain

Dr. William J. Lucas, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Central West Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Richard Swain.

Mr. Swain, 36, died on May 15, 2013, while restrained on the premises of a psychiatric facility in the Penetanguishene region. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Swain's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last seven days and to hear from nine witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at the Hampton Inn Barrie, 74 Bryne Drive, Barrie‎. Dr. Maarthen Reinders will preside as inquest coroner and Sarah Tarcza will be counsel to the coroner.
