Inquest Date into the Deaths of Benjamin Twiddy, Marilee Towie, Holly Harrison, Kevin Dunsmuir, Jennifer Dunsmuir, Robert Dunsmuir and Cameron Dunsmuir Announced

Dr. Jennifer Arvanitis, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Central East Office, today announced that a new date has been scheduled for the inquest into the deaths of Benjamin Twiddy, Marilee Towie, Holly Harrison, Kevin Dunsmuir, Jennifer Dunsmuir, Robert Dunsmuir and Cameron Dunsmuir.

Benjamin Twiddy, 19, Marilee Towie, 17, and Holly Harrison, 18, died in a house fire in Whitby on April 29, 2012. Kevin Dunsmuir, 55, Jennifer Dunsmuir, 51, Robert Dunsmuir, 19, and Cameron Dunsmuir, 16, died in a house fire in East Gwillimbury on March 29, 2013.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding all of the deaths and will include the various aspects of fire safety before and during a fire, and local emergency services response to fire. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last eight weeks and hear from approximately 53 witnesses.

The inquest will begin on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the Coroners Courts, Courtroom A, Forensic Services and Coroners Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. David H. Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Frank Giordano will be counsel to the coroner.
