Inquest Date into the Death of Jermaine Carby Announced

Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Jermaine Carby.

Mr. Carby, 33, died on Sept. 24, 2014, at the Brampton Civic Hospital following an encounter with Peel Regional Police. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Carby's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three weeks and to hear from 15 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016, at the Provincial Offences Courthouse, 5 Ray Lawson Blvd., 2nd Floor, Brampton. Dr. William J. Lucas will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
