Inquest Into the Death of Andrew Townsend Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held in the death of Andrew Townsend.

Mr. Townsend, 27, died on Dec. 17, 2012, while in custody at the Kingston Penitentiary.  An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Townsend's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two days and to hear from seven witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at the Napanee Superior Court, 97 Thomas St.  Dr. Daniel Dufour will preside as inquest coroner and Jennifer Ferguson will be counsel to the coroner.
