Date for the Inquest into the Death of Eric Osawe Announced

Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Eric Osawe.

Mr. Osawe, 26, died on Sept. 29, 2010 in Toronto of injuries sustained when he was shot by a Toronto Police Service officer. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Osawe's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths. 

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and to hear from approximately 15 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2016 at the Forensic Sciences and Coroners Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. John Carlisle will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
