Inquest Date Into the Death Of James Butt Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of James Butt.

Mr. Butt, age 81, died on Jan. 28, 2015, at the Kingston General Hospital following a transfer from Warkworth Correctional Institution. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Butt's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three days and to hear from eight witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2016, at the Cobourg Courthouse, Courtroom #1, 860 William St.  Dr. Michael Martin will preside as inquest coroner and Mark Moorcroft will be counsel to the coroner.
