Inquest into the Death of Shawn MacKenzie Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced an inquest will be held into the death of Shawn MacKenzie.

Mr. MacKenzie, 24, died on Sept. 22, 2013 at the Kingston General Hospital following a transfer from the Collins Bay Institution. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. MacKenzie's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two days and to hear from six witnesses. 

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at the Napanee Superior Court, 97 Thomas St. E.  Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest coroner and Andrew Scott will be counsel to the coroner.
