Inquest Date into the Death of Lena Anderson Announced

Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Lena Anderson.

Ms. Anderson, 23, died on Feb. 1, 2013 at the Kasabonika Nursing Station following a transfer from a police vehicle after an incident. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Anderson's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last up to four days and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov.1, 2016 at the Ontario Government Building, 189 Red River Rd., Thunder Bay. Dr. Michael Wilson will preside as inquest coroner and David Allan will be counsel to the coroner.
