Inquest Date into the Death of Joseph Woods Announced

Dr. William J. Lucas, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Central West Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Joseph Woods.

Mr. Woods, 42, died on March 11, 2015, while at the Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Woods' death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last four days and to hear from six witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Tower Board Room, 5500 North Service Rd., Burlington. Dr. James Kovacs will preside as inquest coroner and Kelli Frew will be counsel to the coroner.
