Inquest into the Death of Sarmad Iskandar Announced

Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Sarmad Iskandar.

Mr. Iskandar, 21, died on June 23, 2014 of injuries sustained on a construction site in Toronto. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Iskandar's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at the Forensic Sciences and Coroners Complex, Courtroom B, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. Monique Moreau will preside as inquest coroner and Deborah Silver will be counsel to the coroner.
