Inquest into the Death of Richard MacKenzie Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held in the death of Richard MacKenzie.

Mr. MacKenzie, 42, died on June 18, 2014, at the Warkworth Institution.  An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. MacKenzie's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last one day and to hear from eight witnesses. 

The inquest will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Cobourg Courthouse, Courtroom #1, 860 William St., Cobourg. Dr. Gordon Watt will preside as inquest coroner and Julie Ann Barrett will be counsel to the coroner.
