Date Change for the Inquest into the Death of Riccardo Torchia Announced

Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that the inquest into the death of Riccardo Torchia originally scheduled for April 24, 2017 has been changed.

Mr. Torchia, 30, a uniformed police officer with the Toronto Police Service who was off duty at the time of his death, died on Aug. 2, 2011, in a motor vehicle accident while riding his motorcycle eastbound on Highway 7 in York Region.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Torchia's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and to hear from approximately 20 witnesses.

The inquest will now begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Forensic Service and Coroner's Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. David H. Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
