Date Change for the Inquest into the Death of Steven Mitchell Announced

Dr. William J. Lucas, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Central West Office, today announced that the inquest into the death of Steven Mitchell originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 17, 2017 has been changed.

Mr. Mitchell, 53, died on Feb. 6, 2014, during the course of his employment at a construction site in Barrie. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Mitchell's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three days and to hear from five witnesses.

The inquest will now begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Forensic Sciences and Coroners Complex, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto.  Dr. Maarthen Reinders will preside as inquest coroner and Raymond Williams will be counsel to the coroner.
