Inquest into the Death of Jason John Briand Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Jason John Briand.

Mr. Briand, 46, died on Oct. 22, 2015 at the Quinte Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding his death.  The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.  

The inquest is expected to last three days and to hear from seven witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at the Strathcona Paper Centre, 16 McPherson Dr., Napanee. Dr. David Eden will preside as inquest coroner and Monica Heine will be counsel to the coroner.
