Inquest Date into the Death of Youssef Mohammed Hussein Announced

Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Youssef Mohammed Hussein.

Mr. Hussein, 27, died on April 12, 2016, at the Ottawa Hospital after transfer from the Ottawa Carleton Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act. 

The inquest will examine the events surrounding the death of Mr. Hussein. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.  

The inquest is expected to last five days and to hear from approximately 21 witnesses. 

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 9, 2018, at Keefer Room, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. W. Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion will preside as inquest coroner and Peter Napier will be counsel to the coroner.
