Inquest into the Death of Aaron Charles England Announced

Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Hamilton Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Aaron Charles England.

Mr. England, 38, died on Nov. 16, 2016, while in custody at the Niagara Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. England's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last three days and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at the Welland Courthouse, 102 East Main St. Dr. Jennifer Tang will preside as inquest coroner and Graeme Leach will be counsel to the coroner.
