Inquest into the Death of Richard Chatelain Announced

Dr. Paul Dungey, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Kingston Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Richard Chatelain.

Mr. Chatelain, 58, died on May 14, 2015, while in custody at Bath Institution. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Chatelain's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two days and to hear from approximately seven witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at the Superior Court of Justice, 97 Thomas St. E., Napanee. Dr. Geoffrey Bond will preside as inquest coroner and Monica Heine will be counsel to the coroner.
