Inquest into the Death of Jason Renato Simon Announced

Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion, Regional Supervising Coroner for East Region, Ottawa Office, today announced that an inquest will be held into the death of Jason Renato Simon.

Mr. Simon, 20, died at his residence on February 15, 2016, after having accessed multiple emergency mental health services in the preceding weeks.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Simon's death.  The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.  

The inquest is expected to last nine days and hear from approximately 25 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019, at the Keefer Room, Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave. W. Dr. Robert Reddoch will preside as inquest coroner and Peter Napier and Troy Harrison will be counsel to the coroner.
