Inquest into the Death of Emmanuel Oruitemeka Announced

Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, announced today that an inquest will be held into the death of Emmanuel Oruitemeka.

Mr. Oruitemeka, 25, died in hospital on February 16, 2014, after collapsing while in police custody four days earlier. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Oruitemeka's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

Details regarding the date and location will be provided at a later date when the information becomes available. Dr. Bob Reddoch will preside as inquest coroner and Robert Kozak will be counsel to the coroner.
