Inquest Date into the Death of Moses Beaver Announced

Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Moses Beaver.

Mr. Beaver, 56, died on February 13, 2017, at Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre after transfer from the Thunder Bay Jail. He had been experiencing mental health issues prior to going in to custody. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Beaver's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 15 days and hear from approximately 27 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2019, at the Thunder Bay Courthouse, Courtroom #6, 125 Brodie St. N. Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion will preside as inquest coroner. Julian Roy and Robert Kozak will be counsel to the coroner.
