Inquest Date into the Death of Anthony Divers Announced
Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner for West Region, Hamilton Office, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Anthony Divers.
Mr. Divers, 36, died in hospital on October 1, 2016, of injuries sustained after interaction with the Hamilton Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Divers' death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.
The inquest is expected to last two weeks and hear from approximately 20 witnesses.
The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2019, at the John Sopinka Courthouse, 45 Main St. E., Hamilton. Dr. John Carlisle will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be counsel to the coroner.
