Inquest Date into the Death of Douglas Kyereh Announced

Dr. Kenneth Peckham, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Central West Office, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Douglas Kyereh.

Mr. Kyereh, 35, died in hospital on June 13, 2016, after transfer from the Toronto South Detention Centre. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.  

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Kyereh's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The inquest is expected to last five days and hear from approximately 16 witnesses.

The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2019, at the Coroner's Courts, Courtroom B, 25 Morton Shulman Ave., Toronto. Dr. Mary Beth Bourne will preside as inquest coroner and Michally Iny will be counsel to the coroner.
