Inquest into the Death of Moses Beaver Postponed

Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that after receiving input from the parties involved in this inquest, the inquest into the death of Moses Beaver is postponed.

Mr. Beaver, 56, died on February 13, 2017, at Thunder Bay Health Sciences Centre after transfer from the Thunder Bay Jail. He had been experiencing mental health issues prior to going in to custody. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest, originally scheduled for November 4, 2019, will now take place in 2020, and the date is yet to be determined. Dr. Louise McNaughton-Filion will preside as inquest coroner. Julian Roy and Robert Kozak will be counsel to the coroner.
