Ontario Investing $1.6 Million in Kawartha Lakes Boys and Girls Clubs
Improving Supports and Services for Children and Youth in the City of Kawartha Lakes
Ontario is investing $1.6 million to ensure The Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes' facilities are in good repair and support its role as a community hub.
Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough, was at the club today to announce this funding, on behalf of Minister of Children and Youth Services Michael Coteau. The investment will allow Chimo Youth and Family Services to share the facility with The Boys and Girls Clubs and will help the agencies share supports and services to better meet the needs of the Kawartha Lakes children, youth and their families.
The funding will also help The Boys and Girls Clubs make the necessary renovations and upgrades including the construction of a new parking lot and upgrades to the existing one, new ventilation systems for the Youth Centre kitchen, upgrades to the daycare play area, replacing flooring and windows and the construction of a Section 23 classroom.
Ontario is making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province's history -- about $160 billion over 12 years, which is supporting 110,000 jobs every year across the province, with projects such as hospitals, schools, roads, bridges and transit. Since 2015, the province has announced support for more than 475 projects that will keep people and goods moving, connect communities and improve quality of life. - The Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes and Chimo Youth and Family Services serve more than 9,000 children and youth a year.
- The funding to support these facility updates is part of Ontario’s Partner Facility Renewal Program, which helps children's treatment centres, children's aid societies and youth centres across Ontario to repair and maintain their facilities and offer more secure and accessible services.
- This investment aligns with the province’s work to support community hub development by bringing a unique mix of services together under one roof to meet community needs.
“The Boys and Girls Club and Chimo Youth and Family Services provide exceptional programming and services that have a positive impact on child’s development and well-being. By providing this funding, our government it not only benefiting the children and youth involved with these organizations, but helping these organizations to have a greater impact with the families in our community.”
“This project is really about bringing services together and making it easier for The Boys and Girls Clubs and Chimo Youth and Family Services to offer services that are integrated and co-ordinated, ultimately providing the children, youth and families of Kawartha Lakes convenient access to programs and services they need in order to reach their full potential.”
