Ontario Supporting New Community Services Hub in Durham
Province Helping People Access Services in Their Communities
Ontario is helping to build a new facility in the Durham region that will provide a variety of services and supports for people under one roof.
Tracy MacCharles, MPP for Pickering-Scarborough East, Joe Dickson, MPP for Ajax-Pickering and Granville Anderson, MPP for Durham made the announcement on behalf of Minister of Community and Social Services, Dr. Helena Jaczek this afternoon at Catholic Family Services of Durham centre in Oshawa. The facility will move from its current aging building, into the new Hope Centre Durham Region, which will offer more community services in one space.
The building, which is expected to open by June 2018, will provide a variety of services, including support for survivors of domestic violence and their children, crisis support, intensive trauma counselling, sexual assault counselling and transitional housing support services.
This project is part of Ontario's support for community hubs, which help people access multiple services under one roof within their communities.
Helping people easily access the community services they need is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.
- Ontario is investing $1.1 million in the renovation of 707 Simcoe Street South, a new facility in Oshawa that will house the Hope Centre Durham Region.
- Community hubs bring together service providers to offer a range of services that respond to demonstrated community needs and priorities.
“The new Hope Centre of Durham Region will make it easier for people to get a range of services and supports that they need all in one place. This will help children and their families access vital services such as safety planning, risk assessments, domestic and sexual violence counselling, life skills training, legal support and transitional and housing support services. This investment reflects our government’s determination to put people at the centre of the services we provide.”

“The Hope Centre Durham Region will be a real boost for our community. Our residents will have better access to important community and social services under one roof.”
“Investment in the new Hope Centre in Oshawa will make a real, tangible and immediate difference in the daily lives of people in Durham. I will continue to work to improve services for people in Ajax-Pickering and across the Durham region.”
“This investment in Catholic Family Services of Durham will help bring much-needed services together, under one roof, for the people who need them most. The Hope Centre will support victims of domestic violence and their families, and this new facility will address some of the important social services issues brought to my attention from our community.”
“We are pleased to be furthering our commitment to improving services for people in Durham. We are very thankful for the generous capital grant allocated by the Ministry of Community and Social Services for the renovation of this new facility.”
