Eastern Ontario Manufacturer Expands And Diversifies
McGuinty Government Supports Job Creation At Mirmil Products
Ontario is helping an eastern Ontario company to expand its manufacturing facility, allowing the business to diversify its product line.
Mirmil Products of Trenton will receive $447,340 through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF) towards the expansion that also includes the installation of a biomass heating system. The provincial support is part of a total investment of nearly $3 million by the company. The project will add 34 new jobs over the next three years to an existing staff of 47.
Partnering with business is a key component of the Ontario government's five-point economic plan to grow the economy.
- Once the biomass heating system is installed, the company estimates it will no longer use 100,000 cubic metres of natural gas per year and will divert 300 metric tonnes of wood waste from landfills.
- To date, the EODF has committed over $12 million to 31 announced projects representing a total project investment of $78 million.
- In 2007, eastern Ontario's gross domestic product (GDP) was approximately $61 billion, representing 12 per cent of the provincial total.
“We are proud to support Ontario businesses in developing new products and attracting new customers. Innovative companies like Mirmil Products create good jobs for Ontario families and drive economic growth.”
“The support from the province allows us to quickly move forward with this project. Once the expansion is complete, we'll be able to adopt lean manufacturing principles to further improve productivity and efficiency.”
