McGuinty Government Capitalizes On Emerging Technology, Creates High-Value Jobs

Ontario is helping a leading-edge eastern Ontario IT company become a global leader in cloud computing, an Internet-based computing system, while creating seven knowledge-based jobs in Kingston.

By bringing its innovative Orchestra CMS content management system to market, Stantive Technologies Group Inc. would gain an important foothold in Internet-based, cloud computing services, the next wave of technological innovation. The province is providing $300,000 through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund to help the company develop its pioneering content management system and improve staff training.

This three-year project will also help build a new foundation for sustained, diversified economic growth in eastern Ontario.

Partnering with local business organizations is a key component of the five-year Open Ontario plan to create new job opportunities and promote economic growth.

  • Formed in 1992, Stantive Technologies Group Inc. provides business technology services in four key areas: consulting services, on-demand application solutions, on-premise IT products and community-focused collaborations.
  • In 2008, eastern Ontario's gross domestic product was approximately $66 billion, representing 12 per cent of the provincial total.
  • Cloud computing is Internet-based computing, whereby shared resources, software, and information are provided to computers and other devices similar to an electricity grid.
  • As a result of business tax cuts and the move to a harmonized sales tax, the tax on business investment in Ontario is being cut in half, making Ontario businesses more competitive.
