Ontario Launches Job Creation Programs in Eastern and Southwestern Ontario

McGuinty Government Partnering with Businesses to Drive Innovation and Create Local Jobs

Ministry of Economic Development and Growth

The new Southwestern Ontario Development Fund and renewed Eastern Ontario Development Fund are now open and receiving applications from companies that are driving innovation, growing Ontario's economy, and creating local jobs.

These funds will help diversify and strengthen each region's economy by encouraging businesses to pursue innovation and new markets, while creating jobs.

Since partnering with the government through the Eastern Ontario Development Fund, Blommer Chocolate Company has invested in modernizing its Campbellford plant, expanding Blommer's market reach, creating 14 new jobs, and keeping 80 more for local families.

Attracting investment and building business is a key part of the McGuinty government's plan to create jobs and strengthen the economy. A strong economy protects the services that matter most to Ontario families - health care and education.

Quick Facts

  • Since 2008, the Eastern Ontario Development Fund has helped create and retain 13,200 jobs.
  • Recognizing that each region of Ontario has separate and distinct requirements, the renewed Eastern Ontario Development Fund, the new Southwestern Ontario Development Fund, and the programs run by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation will remain separate from the new Jobs and Prosperity Fund announced in the 2012 Ontario Budget.
  • Employment in Ontario has increased by 356,000 net jobs from the recessionary low in June 2009.
  • The government has cut taxes on business investment in half, making the province more competitive and encouraging new businesses to invest in Ontario.
