Statement from the Minister of Economic Development and Innovation on the Defeat of Proposal 6

Today Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, released the following statement on the defeat of Proposal 6 in Michigan last night:

"I am pleased that we will be moving forward with the Detroit River International Crossing. Trade between Ontario and the U.S. is critical to our shared prosperity, and the Detroit-Windsor crossing is a major gateway for Ontario -- about one-third of Ontario-U.S. trade flows through that point.

The new bridge will help boost cross-border trade in the years to come, and we continue to support our partners as they work to implement the bridge. Meanwhile, we are fulfilling our commitment to improve the Windsor-Detroit gateway by moving ahead with the Windsor-Essex Parkway.

In addition to the thousands of jobs the project is bringing and will bring to the Windsor-Essex region, the completed Parkway will allow traffic and goods to flow quickly through this key gateway and will include many community-friendly benefits like green space, neighbourhood connections and recreational trails."
