Statement from Minister of Economic Development and Innovation on the Jobs and Prosperity Report
Today, Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Innovation, released the following statement on receiving the final report from the Jobs and Prosperity Council:
"Last spring, the Premier announced the formation of the Jobs and Prosperity Council, chaired by Gordon Nixon, President and CEO of the Royal Bank of Canada, and Kevin Lynch, Vice President of BMO Financial Group, to provide our government with advice on what actions are needed for Ontario to seize new opportunities and capitalize on existing strengths in a time of increased global competition and rapid growth in developing countries.
Today, I've received the Council's report, Advantage Ontario.
I want to thank the Jobs and Prosperity Council for its report, and for the members' hard work and dedication. We'll review the report and its recommendations, and decide how to move forward in the best interest of Ontarians.
Our government has worked hard to create an environment that makes Ontario an attractive place to do business. We have a talented, diverse and highly skilled workforce, a globally competitive tax system and the world's strongest banks are headquartered right here in Ontario. As the Jobs and Prosperity Council says, "... leadership cannot come from government alone."
This report will help us take the next step in creating a more competitive, more productive economy that will allow us to win on the global stage. A strong and prosperous economy is key to delivering the kind of Ontario we all want to live in, with good jobs, a strong health care system and the best schools in the English-speaking world. It's up to all of us to build it together."
