Ontario Helps Tillsonburg Wood Products Maker Build New Mill
Province Partnering with Southwestern Ontario Business to Create Local Jobs
Ontario is helping International Beams build a new mill creating 55 new jobs for families in Tillsonburg.
With support from the Ontario government's Southwestern Ontario Development Fund (SWODF), International Beams will build a new technologically advanced mill and invest in new, innovative equipment. These investments will allow the company to increase production and export more wood products used in home and commercial construction.
Modelled on the proven Eastern Ontario Development Fund -- which has helped create and protect more than 14,600 jobs -- the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund is helping to create jobs and diversify the economy by encouraging regional business to pursue innovation and new markets.
Providing the right climate to attract investment, create jobs and grow the economy is part of the government's plan to build a prosperous and fair province for all Ontarians.
- About 90 per cent of International Beams engineered wood products are exported to major U.S. distributors.
- Ontario is accepting applications for the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund from qualified businesses that are growing and creating jobs.
- Sectors eligible for the fund include advanced manufacturing, processing, life sciences, information and communication technology, tourism and cultural industries.
- Ontario has created 433,700 jobs since June 2009, recovering all the jobs lost in the recession.
“The new jobs at the mill will translate into a stronger community and a healthier economy. International Beams is an impressive company that uses wood harvested from certified sustainable forests and has an eye towards innovation. We’re proud to work with forward-thinking organizations that will help to position Ontario for sustainable success.”
