Province Funding Infrastructure in North Eastern Ontario

Projects approved under the Canada-Ontario Small Communities Fund

Residents of Burk's Falls, Parry Sound and Georgina Island First Nation will benefit from important infrastructure investments thanks to joint funding from the governments of Ontario and Canada through the Small Communities Fund.

Burk's Falls, Ontario

Drinking Water

This project entails various upgrades to the Village of Burk's Falls Water System.  The village's steel water storage tank will be replaced by a larger, glass-fused steel standpipe. A new system will be installed to control standpipe overflow as well as a new electronic application to monitor water levels. Upgrades will extend the functional lifespan of water system infrastructure, while ensuring access to clean and reliable drinking water for local residents.

  • The province of Ontario will provide up to $496,879.
  • The Government of Canada will contribute up to $496,879.
  • The Municipality of Burk's Falls will be responsible for all remaining costs of the project.

Parry Sound, Ontario

Drinking Water

This project will include the installation of new water mains, sanitary sewers, a storm sewer system and associated roadwork. The project will provide much needed upgrades and modernization to Emily Street's drainage system, while providing an opportunity to improve road infrastructure for the safety and security of motorists and pedestrian alike.

  • The province of Ontario will provide up to $762,600.
  • The Government of Canada will contribute up to $762,600.
  • The Municipality of Parry Sound will be responsible for all remaining costs of the project.

Georgina Island First Nation, Ontario

Drinking Water

The project will include the construction of a new water treatment plant and will help meet current drinking water regulations, thus helping to provide access to safe, clean drinking water to the community's families and residents. 

  • The province of Ontario will provide up to $1,393,333.
  • The Government of Canada will contribute up to $1,393,333.
  • The Georgina Island First Nation will be responsible for all remaining costs of the project.
