Statement on the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs Report
Today, Reza Moridi, Minister of Research, Innovation and Science released the following statement on the report by the expert review panel on the Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs (ONE):
"I am pleased to receive Building Global Winners: The Expert Review Panel Report on the ONE. I would like to thank Gerry Remers, Chair, and the expert panel, for the report. I look forward to reviewing the panel's report and providing a response in the spring that will outline how the government will proceed on its recommendations.
Entrepreneurship and innovation are at the heart of Ontario's economy. It is vital that Ontario's innovation ecosystem adapt to the new global realities for economic growth.
The province established the panel of innovation experts to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the ONE. The ONE Review is an opportunity to ensure that the programs and services offered by member organizations are meeting the needs of Ontario's entrepreneurs over the long term, especially as we create more companies that scale-up.
The ONE includes a network of approximately 130 organizations. The expert review panel traveled the province, from Ottawa to Thunder Bay, consulting with key members of the network.
The panel conducted a comprehensive review of the ONE's entrepreneurial strategy, programs and services. The panel's report proposes a number of recommendations to consider in order for the government to continue helping Ontario entrepreneurs compete and win in a global marketplace.
The Ontario Network of Entrepreneurs is a key component of Ontario's entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystem. The ONE's array of incubators, institutions, support programs and advisory services has helped forge a culture of innovation across Ontario over the past 10 years, where the province is now number two in North America in terms of start-ups.
I want to thank the expert panel for their thoughtful and thorough report and I look forward to reviewing each recommendation."
