Ontario Helping to Create 176 New Manufacturing Jobs in Barrie
Province Partners with Local Business to Expand Production
Ontario is partnering with Wolf Steel Ltd. to help the company expand and diversify its operations, while creating 176 new positions and retaining 574 jobs in the Barrie area.
Wolf Steel is North America's largest privately-owned manufacturer of wood and gas fireplaces. The province is investing $1.5 million through the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund to help the company upgrade its production lines and expand operations to begin manufacturing HVAC and air conditioning equipment currently made in the U.S.
The Southwestern Ontario Development Fund is modelled on the proven Eastern Ontario Development Fund. The funds are designed to help create jobs and diversify the economy by encouraging regional businesses to pursue innovation and new markets. Together, the two funds have created and retained more than 29,000 jobs and attracted over $1.25 billion in investment.
Helping businesses compete and grow in this highly competitive global economy is part of the government's economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.
