Statement from the Minister of Government and Consumer Services on Auditor General's Report to Help Strengthen Operations at Tarion
TORONTO — Today, Lisa Thompson, Minister of Government and Consumer Services, issued the following statement on receiving the Auditor General's Report on the Tarion Warranty Corporation:
"I would like to thank the Auditor General of Ontario for her report and recommendations on strengthening operations at the Tarion Warranty Corporation.
Ontario's government is putting the people at the centre of everything it does to better protect them — at home, online and in our communities. Our government recognizes the importance of Tarion fulfilling its responsibilities to protect new home buyers and owners when making one of the biggest investments in their lives — a home.
My ministry will work with Tarion to ensure the Auditor General's recommendations are addressed in a timely and responsive manner.
Our government has been actively working with Tarion to improve both transparency and operational effectiveness over the past year by requiring Tarion to post board and executive compensation and raise awareness about the risks of buying a unit in a pre-construction condominium project.
As per the Auditor General's recommendations, we will continue to work through policy decisions on the new home warranty program by the end of this year, as previously committed."
