Statement from Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on Assistance to Wawa

Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing

Bob Chiarelli, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, issued the following statement regarding assistance to the Municipality of Wawa:

"Yesterday, I travelled to the Municipality of Wawa and met with Mayor Linda Nowicki and Chief Joe Buckell of Michipicoten First Nation. In a tour of the area, I saw the progress being made in the ongoing repair efforts after the flood damage caused by heavy rains.

I commend the people of Wawa and the Michipicoten First Nation for their resilience in the face of the hardships they have endured. I also want to thank the emergency workers who helped the people of Wawa and the road crews which re-opened the heavily damaged Highway 17.

The province is continuing to support the community and will provide financial assistance under the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program."
