McGuinty Government Invests In Domestic Violence Prevention In Parry Sound-Muskoka

The Ontario government is strengthening the communities in which we live by providing a total of $40,910 for 14 projects in Parry Sound-Muskoka to help prevent violence against women and children. The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines' Violence Against Women Prevention Initiative is one of approximately 40 provincial government programs, involving 10 ministries and many community partners, to help address and prevent domestic violence.

Parry Sound-Muskoka

  • Community YWCA of Muskoka (Bracebridge) - $3,000 to purchase reception area seating and library shelving for the Bracebridge head office.
  • Community YWCA of Muskoka (Bracebridge) - $3,000 to develop a comprehensive communications and marketing plan, upgrade the Web page, and purchase promotional resources, signage and advertising to promote the agency's services.
  • Community YWCA of Muskoka (Bracebridge) - $3,000 to host weekly self-esteem and confidence-building awareness workshops for girls 9-14 in South Muskoka.
  • Esprit Place Family Resource Centre (Parry Sound) - $3,000 to renovate the Centre's playroom.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (Bracebridge) - $3,000 to recruit and train volunteers and staff, and promote awareness of the organization's services.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (Bracebridge) - $3,000 to develop and promote the agency's violence prevention programs in the community of Gravenhurst.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (Bracebridge) - $3,000 to develop and promote the agency's violence prevention programs in the community of Port Carling.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (South River) - $3,000 to host a two-day workshop to train staff, and promote awareness of the agency's services.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (Parry Sound) - $3,000 to host workshops on preventing violence and networking, purchase resources and supplies for the Comfy Corner Drop In, and print brochures and volunteer training manuals.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (Parry Sound) - $3,000 to host an awareness conference for young girls and promote public education initiatives for Nobel.
  • Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services (South River) - $3,000 to offer a weekly violence awareness drop-in program for young women in Emsdale.
  • Muskoka Women's Advocacy Group, Muskoka Interval House (Bracebridge) - $2,460 to develop and distribute brochures promoting the services and programs available through Mukoka Interval House.
  • Parry Sound High School - Near North School Board - $2,750 to conduct peer support awareness programs to empower women and educate youth on the issues of violence and violence prevention, and purchase a video series for the school library.
  • Women's Own Resource Centre (South River) - $2,700 to host an International Women's Day event, and develop a Web page to promote community resources.

Pan-northern

  • Action ontarienne contre la violence faite aux femmes (Ottawa) - $3,000 to develop a virtual Web site library for francophone agencies in the North to better equip them in their intervention efforts with women victims of violence and raising community awareness.
  • Centre ontarien de prévention des aggressions (Toronto) - $3,000 to update and enhance COPA's Web site with two new French-language programs to help promote violence prevention.
