Ontario Government Supports Economic Development
Funds Improvements to Earlton Airport Drainage
SUDBURY - The Ontario government is supporting future economic development in the Township of Armstrong by investing in drainage improvements to an industrial park at Earlton-Timiskaming Airport, Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci announced today.
"Our government is committed to helping small northern communities maximize the use of their infrastructure to achieve prosperity and well-being," said Bartolucci, who is also chair of the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC). "Investments like this one will help to create new economic opportunities in the Earlton area."
The NOHFC is providing $73,000 to the municipality to purchase and install tile drainage on 400 acres of industrial zoned land at the airport. Tiling will benefit existing business in the industrial park, increase the potential for future industrial uses for the land and provide prime leasing property for the municipality.
"I am pleased that our government is supporting this important economic development project in Armstrong," said David Ramsay, Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP and Minister of Natural Resources. "The work will open up many new development possibilities for this land and in the long-term contribute to the viability of our local airport."
This NOHFC project is part of the government's Northern Prosperity Plan for building stronger northern communities. The Northern Prosperity Plan has four pillars: Strengthening the North and its Communities; Listening to and Serving Northerners Better; Competing Globally; and Providing Opportunities for All.
