Province Helps Young Entrepreneur Open Shop On Manitoulin Island
McGuinty Government On The Side Of Northerners
SUDBURY - The McGuinty government is promoting the development of young entrepreneurs by investing in a new consignment sales operation in the community of M'Chigeeng, Minister of Northern Development and Mines Rick Bartolucci announced today.
"Tomorrow's Northern Ontario will be built with the talents of young northerners," said Bartolucci. "We are committed to giving our youth the opportunities they need to build the experience and leadership skills they need to succeed in business right here in the North."
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $25,000 through the Young Entrepreneur Program to launch M'Chigeeng Park and Sell, which will provide consignment sales services for boats, trailers, cars and heavy equipment. Provincial funding will be used for site preparation.
"We are on the side of northerners. That's why we are pleased to be investing in the North's future through this important program oriented to northern youth," said Bartolucci, who also chairs the NOHFC. "Our commitment to developing a new generation of leaders will ensure a brighter future of northern communities."
Other McGuinty government initiatives that are benefiting northern youth include:
• Future Entrepreneurs - a program that nurtures an entrepreneurial mindset and teaches skills to students in Grades 7 and 8
• The NOHFC's Northern Ontario Youth and Co-op Program that helps provide on-the-job training and experience to youth who will work in the North
• A provincial investment of $6.7 million in the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Bursary Fund.
These initiatives are part of the government's Northern Prosperity Plan for building stronger northern communities. The Northern Prosperity Plan has four pillars: Strengthening the North and its Communities; Listening to and Serving Northerners Better; Competing Globally; and Providing Opportunities for All.
