High-Tech Robotics Business To Open In North Bay
McGuinty Government On The Side Of Northerners
SUDBURY - The Ontario government is helping launch a high-tech engineering services company in North Bay, Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci announced today.
"Our government is supporting ambitious young entrepreneurs looking to establish businesses and careers in the North," said Nipissing MPP Monique Smith. "Our programs are making it possible to create new opportunities that will keep the northern region competitive and prosperous."
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) will provide $25,000, through its Young Entrepreneur Program, to The Fletcher Group Inc. of Corbeil to launch an electro-mechanical engineering robotics service for major industrial manufacturers. Services will include designing computer systems and software that will allow the manufacturing sector to automate their robotics processes. Funding will be used to purchase equipment needed to perform machinery and assembly line design, installation, service and upgrading for industrial manufacturers.
"Today's youth are tomorrow's business owners and community leaders," said Bartolucci, who is also chair of the NOHFC. "We are thrilled to see bright young minds returning to their roots in the North, bringing with them their expertise in cutting edge technologies that help revitalize the economy," said Bartolucci.
This initiative is just one way the McGuinty government is supporting northern youth. Others include:
• The NOHFC's Northern Ontario Youth Internship and Co-op Program, which helps provide on-the-job training and experience to youth in Northern Ontario
• Mobilizing our Northern Development Councils to tackle the issue of youth out-migration from the North.
These initiatives are part of the government's Northern Prosperity Plan for building stronger northern communities. The Northern Prosperity Plan has four pillars: Strengthening the North and its Communities; Listening to and Serving Northerners Better; Competing Globally; and Providing Opportunities for All. Since 2003, investments in infrastructure, postsecondary education, research and innovation and key economic sectors have helped strengthen Ontario's economic foundations and continue to build opportunity.
