McGuinty Government Supports New Ressource Exploration Service In Sturgeon Falls

McGuinty Government On The Side Of Northerners

SUDBURY - The McGuinty government is supporting the expansion of the exploration services sector in West Nipissing by investing in the establishment of a new surveying and drilling operation, Northern Development and Mines Rick Bartolucci announced today.

"The McGuinty government is committed to supporting the growth of new business in Northern Ontario and pleased to do so in the service sector that supports the vitality of the mineral exploration sector," said Bartolucci, who also chairs the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC). "Our government understands the integral role the private sector plays in the future prosperity of the North."

The NOHFC is investing $300,000 toward the establishment of Ranger Survey Systems Canada. The funding will be used to help Ranger Survey Systems purchase and renovate a manufacturing facility and to acquire manufacturing and rental equipment. Ranger Survey Systems Canada will market and repair a line of drill survey systems manufactured by a related firm in Australia and manufacture protective brass-alloy housings for the systems. Drill hole survey systems are used in the mining, drilling, oil, and gas industries, to direct drilling activities by supplying information such as inclination, magnetic detail and temperature.

"We are on the side of northerners. That is why we are investing in projects that will help support our vibrant northern mining sector," said Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP David Ramsay. "We expect the innovative services this company has to offer local industries will build on existing strengths and help to create new economic opportunities."

This initiative is just one way the McGuinty government is supporting northern prosperity. Others include:

•    Investing nearly $8.9 million to date, from the NOHFC, to provide internships and work placements to help some 484 young northerners launch their careers in the North

•    Investing $1.8-billion, over the next five years, in upgraded and expanded northern highways, including significant an important rehabilitation project on Highway 17 east of Sturgeon Falls

•    Investing $32,442 toward the development of the West Nipissing Farmer's Market in downtown Sturgeon Falls.

These initiatives are part of the government's Northern Prosperity Plan. It has four pillars: Strengthening the North and its Communities; Listening to and Serving Northerners Better; Competing Globally; and Providing Opportunities for All.
