Ministry Reaches Milestone In Service Excellence

Ministry of Northern Development And Mines Recognized For Outstanding Service

SUDBURY -The Ministry of Northern Development and Mines is being recognized as an organization focused on excellence in service delivery as well as being a quality workplace that supports employee wellness, Minister Rick Bartolucci announced today.

"Striving for certification under the Progressive Excellence Program is more than a symbolic exercise -- it is a measured result of which we are all extremely proud," said Bartolucci. "We have worked hard over the last few years to strive to provide quality service to the public and to our stakeholders, and we are now being recognized for those efforts."

The ministry participates in the program sponsored by the National Quality Institute. The institute is an independent, not-for-profit organization that helps organizations deliver better service and maintain healthy workplaces.  The ministry recently attained the third of four levels of PEP certification. It is the first Ontario ministry to do so, joining reputable organizations such as AT & T Global Services, The Bank of Canada and Purolator Courier Ltd. in reaching or exceeding this certification level. The ministry will begin preparations to reach the next and final level in the near future.

"I would like to acknowledge and congratulate our staff for contributing to this exceptional achievement through an ongoing commitment to quality work, excellent customer service and a healthy workplace," added Deputy Minister Sue Herbert. "This certification confirms the values and principles that we have set for this ministry and demonstrates that we are committed to continuous improvement and excellence in customer service delivery."

Providing exceptional service is part of the government's Northern Prosperity Plan for building stronger northern communities. The plan has four pillars: Strengthening the North and its Communities; Listening to and Serving Northerners Better; Competing Globally; and Providing Opportunities for All.
