Ontario Helps Islanders Log On To New Opportunities

McGuinty Government Improves Broadband Service On Manitoulin Island

Internet users across Manitoulin Island will soon enjoy the economic and social benefits of expanded broadband Internet coverage.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $485,000 to the Blue Sky Economic Growth Corporation to bring high-speed Internet services to more than 80 per cent of Manitoulin Island.  NOHFC funding will help develop the infrastructure that will deliver broadband services to nearly 30 communities on the island.

  • The Ontario 2008 Budget committed to increasing annual funding to the NOHFC by $10 million a year from $60 million in 2007-2008 to $100 million by 2011-2012.
