Atikokan Explores New Firewood Dispenser Business

McGuinty Government Funds Feasibility Study

The Town of Atikokan will study the possibility of developing a new manufacturing business in the area.

The Atikokan Economic Development Corporation is receiving $7,500 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) to research the potential of establishing a firewood vending machine manufacturing facility in the community.  The study will include an analysis of potential markets and facility requirements as well as reviewing the availability of raw materials and vending equipment components.

Quick Facts

  • A prototype firewood vending machine was developed in the United States and used in test markets in Yellowstone National Park, where it was well received by park users.
  • The NOHFC’s Infrastructure and Community Development Program helps northern communities improve critical infrastructure and develop partnerships that find effective ways to create jobs and improve economic prospects in the North.
