Neighbouring Communities Investigate Water System Extension
McGuinty Government Helps Study Infrastructure Project
The possibility of extending a municipal water system in the Nairn Centre area will be studied with assistance from the Ontario government.
The Corporation of the Township of Nairn and Hyman will determine the viability of extending its municipal water system 14 kilometres to the community of McKerrow. Expanding service would mean better water quality for the residents, improved fire protection and increased capacity for future industrial and commercial development.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $12,000 to assist with the study.
- McKerrow is the main community in the Township of Baldwin. Located about 55 kilometres west of Sudbury on Highway 17, it is home to approximately 550 people.
- The Township of Nairn and Hyman is located about 40 kilometres west of Sudbury on Highway 17 and is home to approximately 500 people. Nairn Centre is the main community within the Township.
