Enhanced Waterfront To Attract Tourists

McGuinty Government Supports Dock And Park Upgrades In West Nipissing

Ontario is supporting efforts to enhance the waterfront in West Nipissing, which will promote tourism and boost the local economy.

The reconstruction of the Minnehaha Bay Park area on the Sturgeon River will ensure visitors and residents in Sturgeon Falls have access to an attractive and safe marina.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) is providing $435,600 to the Municipality of West Nipissing towards this waterfront upgrade.  This project includes the installation of floating docks and a lift as well as landscaping, signage and improvements to the ramp and parking area.

Quick Facts

  • The Sturgeon River flows through the community and provides exceptional access to Lake Nipissing and its many recreational and tourism opportunities.
  • With a population of about 6,000 people, Sturgeon Falls is the largest community in the Municipality of West Nipissing. In August, its annual Step Dance and Fiddle Festival welcomes thousands of visitors and is the biggest event of its kind in Northern Ontario.
