Parry Sound Airport Expands
McGuinty Government Supports Infrastructure Development In The North
Parry Sound Airport is being expanded to accommodate more hangars, sustain jobs and boost economic development in the Township of Seguin and the town of Parry Sound.
With support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), a two-hectare area east of the airstrip is being developed for future construction of up to 24 private hangars and three large commercial hangars. The site preparation work includes blasting the rocky surface in the area to expand the power, water and sewage lines.
This investment is part of the five-year Open Ontario plan to improve infrastructure and promote economic growth.
- Ontario is providing $495,000 to this project under the NOHFC's Infrastructure and Community Development Program.
- The NOHFC has previously provided a total of $375,000 in funding for improvements to this airport. Those improvements, made in 2006 and 2008, created over 30 private hangars.
- The project is being overseen by the Parry Sound Area Community Business and Development Centre Inc.
“Investing in the expansion of smaller municipal airports in the North will help bring new economic activity that means new jobs to northerners.”
