Upgrading Highway 11/17 In Thunder Bay

McGuinty Government Creates Jobs, Invests In Northern Transportation Infrastructure

Improvements to Highway 11/17 east of Thunder Bay near Highway 587 will enhance safety and travel for local residents.

Through Ontario's Northern Highways Program, about eight kilometres of the highway will be rehabilitated including resurfacing and new drainage and grading.

This work is creating more than 20 jobs and is scheduled for completion in October. It is part of the Open Ontario plan to create jobs and opportunities in Northern Ontario.

  • Pioneer Construction of Sudbury has been awarded the $3.2-million contract for this project.
  • The recent Ontario Budget committed $773 million to northern highway rehabilitation and expansion in 2010-2011.
