TV Series And Film Produced In North Bay

McGuinty Government Boosting The North's Film Industry

A television series and feature film produced in North Bay in 2009 added to Northern Ontario's standing as a burgeoning film and television production locale.

With Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) support, Black Walk Corporation has filmed twelve half-hour television episodes called The Savage Tales of Summer Vale and a feature film titled Dark Rising 2 - part of the horror-comedy series Dark Rising.

Both productions were filmed in and around North Bay.  Producers Mihkel Harilaid and Brigitte Kingsley hired local extras, crew members and associated production staff.

This project was part of the Open Ontario plan to create jobs and opportunities in Northern Ontario.

Quick Facts

  • The NOHFC provided $250,000 to this project through its Emerging Technology Program.
  • Dark Rising is about a fight against the supernatural between a fearsome female warrior and ancient demons, who bring their battle to the present.
  • In 2007, Black Walk released the first Dark Rising film. It was nominated for six Canadian Comedy Awards.
