Strengthening Sudbury's Economic Future
McGuinty Government Helping Target Potential Investment Opportunities
The City of Greater Sudbury is taking strategic steps to identify potential investment opportunities that would lead to new jobs and economic growth in the community.
With support from the Northern Communities Investment Readiness (NCIR) initiative, the city will develop sector profiles to identify and assess their effect on the local economy and help the city focus its efforts to attract investment. The sectors include:
- Mining and mining supply services
- Arts and culture
- Health sciences
- Advanced education research and innovation
This initiative is part of the government's five-year Open Ontario plan to create jobs and promote economic opportunities in Northern Ontario.
- The Ontario government is investing $10,000 in this initiative through the NCIR program.
- To date, more than $2 million in NCIR funding has been approved for 248 initiatives across the North.
“The NCIR program is helping northern communities such as Greater Sudbury strengthen their investment attraction strategies and market their advantages to potential investors from around the world.”
“We are pleased that northern communities are working towards economic diversification with the assistance of the NCIR program.”
